"I had the experience but missed the meaning."
                                                    T.S. Eliot

At the heart of the IVC program is a reflection process that guides volunteers in the ongoing search for the presence of the living God. The time devoted to individual and group reflection is a central element of IVC. Based on Ignatian spirituality, it focuses on finding God in all things.

The process has four components:

  • city group meetings - volunteers in the same city area meet monthly to share their volunteer experiences and to pray and reflect together
  • retreats - three times a year, volunteers meet at a central location for community reflection, prayer, and support
The richness of the reflection process is rewarding both in itself and in combination with the opportunity to be in close contact with people whose lives have been marked by poverty. The reflection process also helps IVC members to respond more fully to the new stage of life that they are experiencing.
